Your Are Here Project Dots Toledo With Local Art

AIGA Toledo and The Arts Commission are proud to announce the You Are Here Toledo project (YAH), an art and design project geared toward activating Toledo through a series of 100 site-specific, one-of-a-kind outdoor “dots” affixed to public locations throughout the city. Many of us are quite familiar with the red circle and “You Are Here” dot found on many directories throughout America. These dots are wonderful assurances that we are, in fact, somewhere. The project’s goal is to promote positivity and enhance our sense of place.

Four local jurors determined the winning artists from a pool of 218 submissions. Selected artists were asked to make a powerful visual statement on their dot in response to their dot’s assigned location. This project is unique to Toledo and showcases the amazing artistic talent and places of this region.

Each dot contains a QR (quick response) code that will allow smartphone users to learn more about the artwork, its location and its artist via the YAH mobile app. The first 100 people to “collect” 25 dots though the app will receive a special edition poster produced for this project. For non-smartphone users, each dot also contains the project’s URL for searching the work at their convenience.

Join us at the project launch party held at the Valentine Theater on Tuesday, May 22, from 5:30 - 7:30 pm. For more information, visit: www.youareheretoledo.com.
