TOLEDO, OH, May 1, 2012 – Ohio artist and arts agent Domenico Cavallaro is pleased to present Esthetik, a pop-up gallery exhibition coinciding with the 42nd Annual Glass Art Society Conference this June. The exhibition, which presents the work of a select group of emerging Ohio glass artists alongside that of their international counterparts, will be on display at the Sur St. Clair Gallery in downtown Toledo from June 13 – 16.

The works featured in Esthetik are united by a minimalist sensibility, as well as an emphasis on the versatility of line as a basic design element. From the crisp edges of the mountain scenes depicted on Toledo native Brennan Kasperzak’s simple vessel forms, to the controlled spirals adorning the surface of Toledo Museum glass studio manager Jeff Mack’s Dream Bottles, line is used in a unique and varied ways throughout the exhibition.

The pared back color palettes of exhibition organizer Domenico Cavallaro’s sleek, fused cane panels allow the dramatic twists and turns of the undulating lines within each piece to take center stage. Cavallaro’s experience as an international artist representative throughout the past ten years has greatly influenced his design sensibility; it has also provided him with a unique vantage point from which to view rising talent in glass on an international level.

The three international artists featured in Esthetik are just such rising talent. The simple, understated forms of Mattia and Marco Salvadore’s Spirale vessels serve as an elegant backdrop for the graceful gesture of the flowing cane patterns that spiral around their surfaces, alternately translucent and colorful and muted and opaque. Meanwhile, the crisp lines of Parisian artist Jeremy Wintrebert’s perfectly executed latticino cane work provide a fascinating contrast to the soft, distressed forms of his sculptures.

To develop his skills outside his father’s studio, Mattia also studied with a variety of Muranese masters, attended a course with Anthony Schafermeyer and Claire Kelly at Pilchuck Glass School, and worked for a period of time at the esteemed Venini glass factory.
