Sylvania to Throw a Centennial Gala
The Sylvania Area Chamber of Commerce and the Sylvania Community Arts Commission, in cooperation with The Toledo Blade and KeyBank, will honor one of Northwest Ohio and Sylvania resident premier artist’s - Walter Chapman as he celebrates his centennial year – 100th Birthday on June 1st at the Sylvania Historical Village, 5717 N. Main Street beginning at 6:30 PM. A live auction and proceeds from the event to benefit the Walter H. Chapman Scholarship for Study Abroad at Lourdes University
The event on June 1 will feature gourmet grazing from Sylvania restaurants: , Chandlers, Ciao Restaurant, Treo, Giant Eagle, Mancy’s Italian Grill and The Pinnacle/Central Park West. Additionally donations for the event were accepted from City Q, Kroger’s and GFS. Wines and beer will be provided by Heidelberg Distributing. Additionally, the Historical Village grounds will be artfully enhanced by Keith Brooks and Blooms by Jen in Sylvania and coordinated by Joanna Koenigseker and Beth Bowman. Emcee for the evening is Lee Conklin, news anchor for 13ABC.
Additionally, as part of The Chapman Centennial there will be a Maple and Main Art Show on June 1-2 in downtown Sylvania, coordinated by the Arts Commission. The show will feature 40 juried artists, fabulous entertainment, coordinated by Treo Restaurant, and refreshments. A display of some Mr. Chapman’s memorabilia will be on display at Hudson Gallery. A record crowd is expected both for the gala and art stroll. Centennial banners featuring Chapman art will be on display in and around downtown Sylvania. The banners are sponsored by Mercy. The significance of this commemorative public outdoor art project will be a tremendous tribute to Walter Chapman and a fabulous event for Northwest Ohio.
