Cakewalkin' Jass Band to Kickoff Music at the Market

Cakewalkin' Jass Band of Toledo will kick-off the Perrysburg Area Arts Council 2012 Summer Music at the Market series, Thursday, June 14, 7 p.m. at Commodore Square, 140 E. Indiana, Perrysburg. Sponsored by the City of Perrysburg, Music at the Market concerts are free and open to the public. Concert-goers may bring a chair or blanket for seating.
Cakewalkin' was organized in 1967 after playing three short nightclubs and one wedding. The band opened at Tony Packo's Cafe in 1968. In 1980, the Cakewalkin' Jass Band began a new era in Toledo by opening at Lulu's Storyville Saloon in Old Towne at Southwyck Mall. The band then returned to Tony Packo's in 1981 and continued to play there until 2002.
Today the group regularly plays concerts at establishments in the Toledo area as well as throughout Ohio and Michigan. In addition, the band has produced seven albums on its own "Spittune" label and has been featured in magazines such as Jazzologist and Mississippi Rag.
Concerts will continue throughout the summer on the following Thursdays: June 21, June 28, July 12, July 26, August 2, August 9, August 23, and August 30. For more information, visit the PAAC webiste at www.perrysburgarts.org.
