Toledo Zoo Offers Garden Tour on Aug. 15
How is your garden standing this hot summer? The Zoo’s gardens are doing great! The horticulture staff wants to share those gardening secrets with you on Wednesday, August 15, through a walking garden tour that’s free with regular Zoo admission.
The August 15 tour focuses on creating successful container gardens, drawing from the Zoo’s own collection of stunning container gardens. Included with the tour, you’ll get tips on plant selection, containers, soil, fertilization, maintenance and “avoiding the thugs.”
Master Gardener Lori Fenton, along with Zoo horticulturists, will lead the hour-long walking tour. Reservations are not required; just meet in front of the Zoo’s Conservatory, near the Aquarium, at 10:30 a.m.
This is the third tour of the Watch It Grow series, which started in June. The last tour, on September 19, will focus on the Zoo’s trees and shrubs, from the beautiful tri-color beech tree to colorful hydrangea shrubs — and many gems along the way, from black gum and tulip trees to boxwood and winterberry shrubs.
This summer, the Zoo is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (last admission) and is located on the Anthony Wayne Trail (US 25), four miles south of downtown Toledo.
