Save Our Library Levy Kick-Off
The Toledo-Lucas County Public Library is scheduled to kick off its Levy campaign at 11 a.m. this Thursday, September 6 with a rally at Fifth Third Field, 406 Washington St. in downtown Toledo, with the presence and support of staff, guests and mayors and vice mayors from throughout Lucas County.
Community volunteer Margarita De Leon, a consultant for The Kaleidoscope Group, will serve as the Levy rally's Mistress of Ceremonies, joining Library Director Clyde Scoles.
Dennis Johnson, Library Board President, and Levy Chairperson is scheduled to be present along with Levy Honorary Chairs John and Jeanie Hayward. John Hayward holds emeritus status on the board of the Library Legacy Foundation.
Toledo Mayor Michael P. Bell and Maumee Mayor Timothy L. Wagener have confirmed their presence, along with other elected officials such as Lucas County Commissioner Pete Gerken.
Library donors will be present to show their support of the Library's levy campaign, along with Library staff and guests.
The Library will place a 2.9 mill operating levy on the November ballot to replace an existing 2 mill levy that expires at the end of this year. The .9 increase (9/10s of a mill) will replace what users lost due to budget cuts of the past and would cost the owner of a $100,000 home less than 8 cents per day.
Nearly 50 percent of the Library’s funding is at stake on November 6.
