Masterworks Chorale announces 2012-13 season
Masterworks Chorale, a mixed voice ensemble comprised of singers from the Toledo-area, will present three concerts for its 2012-13 season entitled “Voyage - One World, Many Voices.”
This year’s Christmas concert is inspired by a nearly 100-year tradition of the Men and Boys Choir of King’s College in Cambridge, England. The Chorale will present nine “Lessons and Carols” celebrating the Christmas story in song, poetry and Scripture. Dr. Tim Cloeter, assistant professor of choral activities at Bowling Green State University, will serve as guest conductor. “Lessons and Carols” starts at 8 p.m. Dec. 1 and 4 p.m. Dec. 2 at Epworth United Methodist Church in Toledo.
On March 16, it’s “All Things French, German and Italian” at St. Michael’s in the Hills Episcopal Church in Toledo, featuring the work of many of the finest masters of choral composition. Concertgoers will experience madrigals, part songs, motets, and sacred and secular gems from composers such as Mozart, Bach and Brahms. The concert begins at 8 p.m.
Even thought it’s relatively young compared to England and Western Europe, America can lay claim to a heritage of music that is uniquely its own. “Collage VI” will feature an evening of American folk songs, musical theatre, bluegrass, jazz and songs from Hollywood’s Golden Age. “Collage VI” is at 8 p.m. June 1 at The Valentine Theatre in Toledo.
Join Masterworks Chorale at 4 p.m. Dec. 9 at Olivet Lutheran Church in Sylvania to recreate Handel’s “Messiah.” Audience members can sing with the Chorale in an unrehearsed reading of the masterpiece, or just listen. The event is free. Singers are asked to bring a score and a canned food donation for the Olivet Lutheran Church Food Pantry. Scores will be available at the door for a small fee.
