TAHS Mega Adoption Event: 200 Adoptions in 2 Hours
The Toledo Area Humane Society will be hosting their second MEGA Adoption Event on Saturday, October 6 and Sunday, October 7 outside Westfield Franklin Park Mall in the Sylvania Rd parking lot. The event will take place from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. each day and will feature dogs, puppies, cats and kittens from the Toledo Area Humane Society, plus the Dachsund Rescue of North America, the Lucas County Dog Warden, the Lucas County Pit Crew, Ohio Small Dog Rescue, Paws And Whiskers Cat Shelter, and Planned Pethood Inc. The goal for this event is to do 200 adoptions in just two days!
The Toledo Area Humane Society hosted their first MEGA Adoption Event in August and in just two days, between TAHS, the Lucas County Dog Warden, the Lucas County Pit Crew, Planned Pethood and the Wood County Humane Society, 180 animals found their new homes. The Humans Society is hoping to beat that number this time and reach the goal of 200 adoptions.
“We are really excited about this second MEGA Adoption Event” says Dr. Debbie Johnson, Director of Operations for the Toledo Area Humane Society. “We weren’t sure exactly what to expect with our first event, but it was a huge success and we were so pleased with how many animals found new homes that weekend. We’re very hopeful that we can reach our goal of 200 adoptions next weekend” said Dr. Johnson.
The Toledo Area Humane Society is currently participating in the ASPCA $100K Rachel Ray Challenge – a nationwide challenge encouraging animal shelters and humane societies to find innovative ways to find forever homes for more animals for a chance to win prize money. The Challenge began August 1 and goes through October. During this round of the Challenge, the goal is for each competing shelter to increase their adoptions by at least 300 over the same time period last year. This means that TAHS needs to do at least 878 adoptions in three months!
Since August 1, the Toledo Area Humane Society has found over 730 dogs, puppies, cats and kittens their new forever homes! As of the end of August, TAHS was tied for 5th place overall in the country and was in 1st place in their division for the Challenge, earning them a $5,000 “Fast Start” grant to help them save more animals.
The Toledo Area Humane Society is open Tuesday through Friday from 11am – 7pm and Saturday and Sunday from 10am – 6pm. As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization they are committed to the welfare of animals by providing temporary shelter and care while seeking permanent homes. Donations from local individuals, corporations and monies generated by fundraisers and earned revenue are a major source of funding for the Toledo Area Humane Society.
