Toledo School for the Arts Announces Cast of Upcoming Legally Blonde Musical

TOLEDO, OH: Toledo School for the Arts is no stranger to the drama associated with teen theatre majors vying for the musical spotlight. They welcome it. In fact, they even enjoy it! However, the 2012 musical, Legally Blonde, presents a new challenge.

As you may recall from the film version Elle Woods has plenty of fashionable friends through the Delta Nu sorority, but none so fabulous as her best friend Bruiser. TSA staff set out to find a Chihuahua for this starring role and got two dogs for the price of one. TSA principal’s assistant, Nicki Ruswinkle, has graciously offered her pups to the stage hands. Bruiser will be played by Rocky Ruswinkle, a teeny but spunky Chihuahua, and Paulette’s (the hairdresser) adorable mutt will be played by Gypsy Ruswinkle, a mutt of indeterminable lineage. Ruswinkle and her daughter Maya, a TSA 7th grader, will serve as the “Canine Coaches” and keep things under control backstage.

Onto the humans; Elle Woods will be played by Christy Lanning, a TSA senior. Elle is the bright, bubby and (of course) blonde protagonist of Legally Blonde. Elle begins the story in her final semester of Fashion Merchandising at UCLA and her romantic relationship with Warner Huntington III (played by sophomore Kenneth Erard) appears to be approaching an engagement. Suddenly her dreams are shattered when he breaks up with her for a more serious girlfriend. She follows Warner to Harvard Law School to prove him wrong but, with the guidance of TA Emmett Forrest (played by freshman Drew Nauden), discovers a passion and proves herself to be an effective lawyer.

Elle’s entourage of Delta Nu sisters consists of Pilar (senior Jeyda Quinn), Margot (sophomore Morgan Korecki) and Serena (freshman Drew Longmore). Warner’s new “serious” girlfriend, Vivienne, is played by senior Brianna Hartbarger. Elle is helped into law school by Delta Nu Kate (junior Anya Kress) and throughout her Harvard career classmate Enid Hoopes (junior Emma Horvath) comes to her aide through all of the challenges posed by Professor Callahan (sophomore Roan Martin-Hayden). And of course, no sorority girl’s life would be complete without an excellent hairdresser and a personal trainer a’la video on demand. Elle has the opportunity to pay both of these idols back; she outsmarts a less than charming couch potato to pet-rescue for Paulette Bonafonte (junior Maddie Sensenstein) and astounds the courtroom in the defense of Brooke Wyndam (sophomore Abby Heckel).

Legally Blonde will run November 1st, 2nd and 3rd at 7pm and on November 4th at 2:30pm. All shows take place at Owens Community College Center for the Fine and Performing Arts at 30335 Oregon Rd., Perrysburg. Tickets are $14 for adults and $8 for students and seniors; for the best seats you are encouraged to purchase in advance by calling 419.246.8732x226. The 2012 Musical is sponsored by Heartland, and the TSA 2012-13 theatre series is sponsored by Theater League.
