Zen Arts Ensemble in Concert Sunday at the Toledo Museum
The Zen Arts Ensemble directed by Jay Rinsen Weik will be performing a free concert this Sunday at 3pm in the Cloister room at the Toledo Museum of Art.
These unique concert experiences are free and open to the public, and draw on Jay’s extensive experience with avant-garde music and the teachings of Zen and features Toledo area Classical and Jazz musicians as well as Zen practitioners from the Buddhist Temple of Toledo community. The Ensemble formed out of a series of Zen workshops titled "Being Sound" that Jay has presented to several groups intrested in the intesection of sound and contemplative practice, and uses a mix of traditional European and Zen Temple Instruments.
Featured musicians will be Vocalists Denise Ritter Bernardini, Kim Buehler, Ellie Martin, Estar Cohen and Isabella Weik. Gunnar Mossblad on wind instruments, Olman Piedra on percussion and Jeff Halsey on Bass, and as of this writing, renowned Jazz singer Jon Hendricks is also planning to participate! This piece will draw on ancient Buddhist texts from India, Tibet and Korea.
