Toledo Zoo Presents Free Climate Change Symposium

Posted: Wednesday, October 17, 2012 by: Andi Norman | Category: Arts and Entertainment

On Wednesday, October 31, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., the Toledo Zoo presents a free, informative symposium about climate change. The symposium will feature accurate, relevant and up-to-date information about climate change research and the impact climate change has on the environment.

The symposium is ideal for students and education professionals at the middle school level on up, including college staff, faculty and students, along with anyone who would like to learn more about climate change. Zoo admission is free for Symposium attendees, and a light lunch will be provided in the Museum’s Great Hall.

The schedule will be fast-paced and interactive, with hands-on demonstrations and presenters from The Ohio State University, the University of Toledo, Polar Bears International, Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum and the Toledo Zoo. One of the highlights of the symposium is a live videoconference, straight from a “tundra buggy” in Churchill, Manitoba (Canada), with scientists who will discuss their work in the Arctic.

The symposium is free and open to the public, but the Zoo recommends pre-registration to guarantee space. More information is available at toledozoo.org/climate.

In October, the Toledo Zoo is open daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Zoo is located on the Anthony Wayne Trail (US 25), four miles south of downtown Toledo. For more information, please visittoledozoo.org or call 419.385.4040. Lucas County residents are admitted free of charge each Monday from 10 a.m. to noon. ID showing proof of residency is required.

The Toledo Zoo is committed to inspiring others to join in caring for animals and conserving the natural world. As part of that mission, The Toledo Zoo is accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA), a leader in global wildlife conservation. AZA member institutions are dedicated to providing excellent care for animals, a great experience for visitors and a better future for all living things.
