Dim the lights. Warm up your vocal chords. Join thousands of your neighbors for the most anticipated holiday event of the year. The Town Center at Levis Commons invites you to the 8th Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony featuring a variety of events for the entire family.

The evening will get underway with the arrival of Santa at 6:00 p.m. Following his grand entrance, Santa will be available for visits until 9:00 p.m. in his house on the boulevard. Families are encouraged to bring a camera to take their own pictures with Santa.

Horse-drawn carriage rides will return for the season and offer a truly magical holiday experience for families. Carriage rides are available from 6:00-9:00 p.m. and pick up is located on Chappel Dr. near Schakolad Chocolate Factory. Cost is $5 per person or $10 per family.
Also back by popular demand is Snow Globe Live, a life-sized snow globe perfect for making holiday memories. Kids will have a ball getting inside the giant snow globe to play with pretend snow and parents will appreciate the unique photo opportunity this presents.

One of the highlights of the evening will be the many performances on the stage leading up to the tree lighting. Julie’s Dance Studio and Perrysburg Sophisticates, favorites from years past, will return to liven up the stage with dance and baton routines. Two musical acts, the Forte Trio Boys and Night Session Orchestra, will round out stage show and help ring in the season at Levis Commons.

The Forte Trio Boys consist of Reed Gnepper, George Mancy and Henry Seifried, all sixth graders at Ottawa Hills Elementary School. The boys have a passion for singing and actively take vocal lessons while still enjoying typical pre-teen boy activities like sports, theater, laughing, playing computer games and hanging out with their friends.

Night Session Orchestra is a full instrumentation big band including a vocalist and comprised of skilled, professional musicians from the greater Toledo area. The most unique quality of this band is the intensity of musical expression and their commitment to putting "pizzazz in the jazz". The orchestra performance will be accompanied by a laser light show, an exciting new addition to the tree lighting ceremony.

At 8:00 p.m., following all of the performances, a very special guest will help Mary Beth and Rick from 101.5 The River lead the crowd in a countdown to bring over 150,000 lights to life on the 50-foot tree. Sesame Street’s most-beloved Elmo, is in need of several helpers to assist him as he takes on the important job of lighting the tree. Ten lucky children will be randomly chosen to join Elmo on stage and be a part of the lighting ceremony. For those families interested in nominating their child aged 2-12 to help Sesame Street’s Elmo light the tree visit www.shopleviscommons.com to enter to win.

Elmo is visiting Imagination Station as part of the science center’s new traveling exhibition, Sesame Street Presents: The Body which will be in Toledo now through January 27th, 2013. Sesame Street Presents: The Body teaches families about how to maintain a healthy lifestyle, especially at an early age. The exhibition features three different education zones related to the human body: Your Insides, Your Outsides and Staying Healthy. Finally, in the spirit of giving, ISOH/Impact will be at the event collecting items for their “Keeping Kids Kozy and Warm” project. Families are asked to consider bringing a donation of homemade or purchased blankets/throws, pajamas, packages of underwear/socks and age-appropriate books to be donated to children in need. Families that contribute to the cause will be entered to win a prize package including tickets to ISOH/Impact’s annual “International Tea & Gingerbread Party” on December 1st, 2012.
