Passport Service Available at Main Library

From the time the U.S. Department of State approved the Toledo-Lucas County Public Library as a passport-application acceptance agency, patrons have steadily come to Main Library, 325 Michigan St., to renew or update their passports. Through November of 2012 we have accepted 183 applications (on average we accept around 40 applications a month).

Applications are accepted up to one hour before library closing time, now seven days a week due to the addition of Sunday hours at the Main Library beginning January 6, 2013. With the additional Sunday hours, the Library will offer passport acceptance services Monday through Saturday during normal hours of operation, and also on Sundays from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

“The Main Library will be the only passport acceptance agency in the region available on Sundays,” said Cathy Bartel, the Main Library’s Circulation Manager.

"We are pleased to offer this service to the community," added Bartel. "Since last July we have offered the service with hours that are additional to others in our area. Evening and weekend hours are especially popular. This service also complements travel resources the library offers."

Applications will be accepted up to one hour before library closing time, Monday through Sunday. Along with the federal passport fee, a $25 processing fee will be assessed. Passport photo service will be available for $5.

Applicants should check the travel.state.gov Web site or call 1-877-487-2778 to confirm the documents needed for their applications.
