"Early One Evening at the Rainbow Bar and Grille", by Bruce Graham, is the story of Shep, a bartender who wandered into town off the exit ramp and never left. Jason Kramer, a native of Fremont now residing in Toledo, portrays the role. It appears the world is ending and “everybody’s going crazy” according to Shep’s mechanic friend, Roy (Jeff Buchanan of Gibsonburg). Meanwhile, Willy (Tim Bolton of Fremont), a bar regular with his own stool, shoots his wife and comes looking for Tony, the former bar owner. Barmaid Shirley, played by Lauren Meyer of Sandusky via hometown Clyde, is stealing cars and breaking into jewelry stores. She also has a list of things she wants to do before she dies and Shep is on it! Bullard (Scott Havice of Fremont) is a traveling salesman who comes looking for a bomb shelter he sold years ago. The bar’s neon sign falls on the local gym teacher’s car on her way out of town and she (Hilary Frater of Fremont) comes armed with a lug wrench looking for help. Just when things couldn't get much crazier, in comes Joe, portrayed by Michael PJ Foos of Gibsonburg, who offers Shep and Virginia a way out of all this. Is he with the government or is he…God?

If a community theatre were to build a “dream team” like professional sport teams do, this would be the case with the cast and crew behind "Early One Evening at the Rainbow Bar and Grille". Kramer, Frater and Bolton all recently won high honors in acting from the Ohio Community Theatre Association (OCTA) for FCT’s "Leaving Iowa", which swept the 2011 regional and state festival competitions. Foos’ direction for that production also garnered awards. Buchanan was a member of the award winning ensemble for FCT’s "Out of Sterno", the 2012 Northwest region OCTA state invitee alternate. Havice, an FCT veteran, often lends his talents to the Fremont Ross High School drama department and has led the FCT’s Youth Theatre productions in their first three seasons of summer camp shows. Meyer, while the youngest member of the ensemble is no stranger to the stage, as she recently returned to Ohio from five years of working and performing in New York City and nationwide touring. With returning award winners also overseeing, set design, décor, costumes, lighting and sound, this production is destined to be memorable and well worth FCT’s reasonable ticket prices.

This production is directed by Linda Bower, yet another OCTA winner for Leaving Iowa, who also directed "The Nerd" and "Squabbles". Bower splits her time onstage, backstage and working on numerous executive committees at FCT.
