2013 Golf Marathon, 100 Holes to Fight Family Homelessness

“Metropolitan Toledo is ranked first in the nation in terms of concentrated poverty,” said Elizabeth Tore, Executive Director of Family Promise of Greater Toledo. “Our local family shelters are continuously full, overwhelmed by the need, and turning families away. As a community, we must provide an answer. Family Promise mobilizes community resources to respond to the need.”
This year’s 100 Hole Golf Marathon is one of the major events sponsored by Family Promise which will directly benefit a new facility located in south Toledo. This new facility will demonstrate a renewed commitment to combat Toledo area homelessness.
Every marathon golfer will receive a “goody bag”, a golf cart for the day, balls and tees, as well as free food and drink throughout the day. Golfers will also receive a free pass for a future round of golf at Whiteford Valley Golf Club. A $1,000 grand prize will be awarded to the top overall fundraiser and golfers are welcome to bring a friend to act as a caddy. Each golfer is asked to target $2,500 worth of sponsorships which will be donated to Family Promise.
Family Promise works in partnership with faith-based communities to reach out to homeless children and their families throughout the region. Originally known as Interfaith Hospitality Network, we embrace a non-denominational approach to homelessness. Homelessness doesn’t discriminate and neither do we. More than a shelter, Family Promise is a program for families seeking immediate relief from the tragedy of homelessness and the opportunity to change their lives for the better.
