Lucas County Foster Parent Association "Steps Out for Kids"
The Lucas County Foster Parent Association is holding its 13th annual Walk-a-Thon on May 11, 2013 at the Liz Pierson Shelter House at Ottawa Park. The shelter is located immediately across from The Toledo Hospital on Kenwood Boulevard.
The Walk-a-thon is a benefit to support the Johnson Family Memorial Scholarship Fund, which provides scholarships to children emancipating from foster care who plan to attend college or seek career training after high school. The Association plans to award two $1,000 scholarships in 2013.
Registration for the Walk-a-Thon begins at 10:15 a.m., and the walk begins at 11 a.m. Participants will walk 6.2 miles (10K), twice circling the park. WTOL and Fox Toledo reporter Nicole Collier will be on hand to lead the walkers. Participants are encouraged to walk individually or as a team, and prizes will be awarded for top fundraisers. Donation forms are available by calling 419-213-3347.
The Lucas County Foster Parent Association was incorporated as a non-profit organization in 2000. Its members provide temporary, in-home care for children whose parents are unable to fulfill their parental role. The Association supports, educates and advocates for foster, adoptive and kinship parents, and sponsors activities for the children in their care. Any state-licensed foster parent or individual interested in the welfare of children is welcome to join.
