Windows on the Past: Identifying and Dating 19th Century Photographs
(Released April 22, 2013) – Do you have 19th Century family photos that are hard to date? Are you interested in photography? Love old photographs? The Toledo-Lucas County Public Library’s Local History and Genealogy department invites you to attend Windows on the Past: Identifying and Dating 19th Century Photographs, an information workshop that will include tips for dating 19th Century photographs. The workshop is scheduled from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 14 and will be held in the McMaster Center of Main Library, 325 Michigan St. The workshop will feature author and expert Diane Gagel, a retired college instructor, freelance writer, and professional genealogist. Gagel is a past president and fellow of The Ohio Genealogical Society and the author of numerous articles and four books, including Windows on the Past: Identifying, Dating, & Preserving Photographs (Heritage Books, Inc., 2000). Gagel will provide tips for dating 19th Century photographs using photographer information, props and fashion. The workshop will also include preservation of historic photographs and digital issues.
