Library presents Poetry Speaks
(Released April 19, 2013) – The Toledo-Lucas County Public Library presents Poetry Speaks scheduled from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, April 25 in the Huntington Meeting Room at Main Library, 325 Michigan St. This event is in observance of National Poetry Month, inaugurated by the Academy of American Poets in 1996. National Poetry Month is now held every April, when schools, publishers, libraries, booksellers, and poets throughout the United States band together to celebrate poetry and its vital place in American culture. Thousands of organizations participate through readings, festivals, book displays, workshops, and other events. The Poetry Speaks event features six readers: · Ammon Allred, a professor in the Philosophy department at the University of Toledo · Andrew Field, a second-year Masters student in the English department at the University of Toledo · Anthony Frame, co-founder and co-editor of Glass: A Journal of Poetry. His first book of poems, A Generation of Insomniacs, is forthcoming from Main Street Rag Press. · Michael Grover, a poetry veteran; small press aficionado and proprietor of Red Fez. · Christina Brooks, an author of Poet’s Haven and is a diverse and engaging reader. · Katrina Barnhill, an experienced poet; just performed with her group Turbulenz at Artomatic 419, an Arts Commission of Greater Toledo event. Please note that lewd lyrics, profanity, or strong sexual content are not allowed during poetry performances.
