ANNIE the Musical returns to Fremont
Leapin’ Lizards! ANNIE is back!
ANNIE is about to return to Fremont Community Theatre! The popular musical was first performed at FCT during the 1984-1985 season, again in 2001, and now, under the direction of Mitchell Antesky and musical direction of Cyndi Hineline, will be undergoing a third interpretation on the FCT stage.
Inspired by Harold Gray’s Little Orphan Annie comic strip, ANNIE the musical premiered on Broadway in 1977, with a 35th Anniversary production taking place on Broadway just last year. During those 35 years, ANNIE the musical took form in several revivals, many national tours, and two movie versions.
ANNIE is the story of an 11-year-old orphan who, despite living during the Great Depression, is extremely optimistic about finding her parents, who left a note, saying they'll come back for her one day. Annie escapes the orphanage and clutches of the unsavory Miss Hannigan. On her journey to find them, Annie wins the heart of Oliver Warbucks, a billionaire who vows to help her find them, even though she has won his heart as well.
Director Mitchell Antesky says that working with Annie's fellow "orphans", who range in age from 6 to 13, has been a joy. Many of them have been involved in FCT Youth summer camp productions and other large cast shows of the past few seasons, but there are also a few new faces on stage. “It came as no surprise to me at auditions the amount of talent we had to choose from. This ultimately led to a double casting of the lead orphans, performing on alternating nights throughout the run,” says Antesky. “You might want to check the schedule and come back a second night to see your favorite or ?nd a new one!”
With such well-known songs as "I Don't Need Anything But You," "You're Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile" and the ever-popular "Tomorrow," ANNIE is a family friendly show that is sure to please folks of all ages.
ANNIE will be performed on May 3-5,10-12, and 17-19. Friday and Saturday performances are at 8:00 PM and Sunday matinee performances are at 2:00 PM. Tickets are $12.00 for adults and $10.00 for students and seniors.
On Sunday, May 12th, there will be a special price of $5.00 for adult women in honor of Mother’s Day.
FCT encourages community members to make ticket reservations soon; multiple performances are anticipated to sell out. To make reservations, call FCT at 419-332-0695, or you may pre-order tickets at fremontcommunitytheatre.org
