Teen Theatre production of Gentlemen Prefer Blondes
Fremont Community Theatre is pleased to present the Teen Theatre production of Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, a musical with a book by Joseph Fields and Anita Loos, lyrics by Leo Robin, and music by Jule Styne, based on the best-selling novel of the same name by Loos. The musical originally opened on Broadway in 1949, running for 740 performances, and introduced Carol Channing, but is probably better known for the movie adaptation starring Marilyn Monroe and Jane Russell in 1953. The well-known songs "Bye, Bye Baby" and "Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend" were introduced in this musical.
Gentleman Prefer Blondes is the story of a blonde girl from Little Rock, Lorelei Lee (Alexis Schmidt of Clyde) who knows how to get her way – especially with men. Lorelei and her friend Dorothy Shaw (Leah Marty, also of Clyde) set out on a voyage to Paris to snare wealthy husbands on a luxury cruise. The potential suitors they meet on the voyage are played by Joey Magnuson of Fremont, Avery Gerwin of Gibsonburg, and Matt Gerber and Josh Marty of Clyde.
Other featured characters are the Steward (Kristopher Krotzer of Gibsonburg), the French inspectors (Cyrus Foos of Gibsonburg and Ryan Book of Woodville), the Follies girls (Ally Brown, Jessica Holland and Leah Darr, all of Fremont), and the wealthy female passengers (Delilah Foos of Gibsonburg and Riara Holland of Fremont). The Ensemble is made complete with Ben Davies of Gibsonburg, Kyleigh Harrison of Bettsville, Connor Rettenmund and Mackenzi Shaull Babcock of Clyde, Kayla Hunter of Fostoria , Ember Ollom, Katie Magnuson, Corey Wise, Sam Berlekamp, Jacob Hasselbach, Abby Havice, Rachel Hofacker, Alyssa Huffman, Autumn Ollom, and Madison Smith, all of Fremont.
The show is under the direction of Ryan Mahaffey of Rossford, with assistant Hilary Frater of Fremont, student director and choreographer Delilah Foos of Gibsonburg, and music direction by Cyndi Hineline and Joe Kiser, both of Fremont.
This production features teens aged 13 through 19 who attend Fremont Ross and Middle School, Fremont St. Joe, Gibsonburg, Clyde-Green Springs, Elmwood, Woodmore, St. Wendolyn and BGSU.
