Unison Behavioral Health Group is pleased to announce that Dr. Irma Santiago has joined Unison’s medical team! She will be providing physical health and behavioral services to adults as well as children at both Unison’s Starr and Woodruff sites.
The integration of primary healthcare into behavioral healthcare is vital for our community. Individuals with mental and substance abuse disorders may die decades earlier than the average person – mostly from untreated and preventable chronic illnesses like hypertension, diabetes, obesity, and cardiovascular disease that are aggravated by poor health habits such as inadequate physical activity, poor nutrition, smoking and substance abuse. Barriers to primary care – coupled with challenges in navigating complex healthcare systems – have been a major obstacle to care.
Unison Behavioral Health Group is now able to coordinate each client’s general and behavioral health care needs. Dr. Santiago’s caring presence and her effective way of treating patients with multiple healthcare needs brings even greater hope to our community.
