Open auditions announced for BGSU choral society
The College of Musical Arts at Bowling Green State University invites community members to audition for the University Choral Society’s 2013-14 season.
Open auditions are being scheduled. Highlights of this year’s season include performances of Handel’s “Messiah” and Verdi’s “Requiem” with the Toledo Symphony Orchestra,.
The University/community ensemble will perform “Messiah” with soloists and the symphony on Dec. 8 as part of the symphony’s regular season at the Toledo Museum of Art Peristyle. On March 21 and 22, the choral society, along with other BGSU choruses and soloists, will return to Toledo to perform Verdi’s choral-orchestral masterpiece with the Toledo Symphony.
“It has been a number of years since the Verdi ‘Requiem’ has been performed in the area and it is a huge undertaking,” said Mark Munson, director of choral activities at BGSU and of the chorus.
Toledo Symphony Orchestra conductor Stefan Sanderling has asked for 200 singers to perform the work, and so the five major choruses at BGSU — the University Choral Society, Collegiate Chorale, A Cappella Choir, Women’s Chorus, and Men’s Chorus — will join forces with the TSO for what is sure to be a cultural highlight of the year for the region, Munson said.
The chorus rehearses from 7:30-9:30 p.m. Tuesdays at the Moore Musical Musical Arts Center, with the first rehearsal scheduled for Sept. 3.
