Are You Ready for the Toledo Hibernian Irish Festival?
The Toledo Hibernian Irish Festival is an event that the Irish person inside you, or the one you love, will not want to miss. There will be Irish bands, food, dancers, music, and an overall atmosphere that will make you think you are back in Ireland itself.
The festival will take place Friday, July 19, and Saturday, July 20, in Toledo, from 4 p.m. until midnight on Friday, and from noon until midnight on Saturday, on Huron Street, between the Blarney and Pizza Papalis.
In previous years, the festival has boasted some fun events for the Irish lover in us all. These include a street pole vault competition in which top athletes demonstrate what attendees consider the fascinating sport of clearing a bar -- and not the kind that serves Guinness beer.
Also in years past, the festival has offered a raffle in which it is possible for participants to win a trip for two to Ireland. This raffle is an example of the kind of strong bond that exists between Ireland and the Irish men and women attending the Toledo Hibernian Irish Festival.
The Toledo Festival is organized by the Ancient Order of Hibernians. Formed in New York City in 1836, the group originally served to help Irish Catholic immigrants who faced discrimination in the United States. Many early members were part of the Molly Maguires, the infamous political activists, and it has old ties to the Irish Republican Army.
It is open to anyone who is Catholic and either Irish or of Irish descent. New members to the group will receive free admission to the festival. If you'd like to join the Ancient Order of Hibernians, you may do so here. Of course, in modern America, activities are now more about partying than politics.
You may also call 419-405-1264 to inquire about joining the Ancient Order of Hibernians, and to ask about securing an admission ticket to the event beforehand. But keep in mind that you can just show up and purchase a ticket at the event itself -- whether you are Irish or Catholic or neither.
Ireland is the kind of place that tends to conjure up exotic visions and fantasies, making people want to visit as tourists. The Toledo Hibernian Irish Festival attempts to recreate the magic of Ireland for the local residents. The festival offers you a chance to experience traditional Irish lifestyles in downtown Toledo.
If you have ever noticed the kind of fanaticism that fans of the Notre Dame "Fighting Irish" football team have, you will know how dedicated Irish people can be to their culture. The Ancient Order of Hibernians are an example of that dedication. They tend to be people who really like to emphasize two aspects of themselves: their Irish heritage, and their Catholic religion. If these two things appeal to you, the Toledo Hibernian Irish Festival might just be an attractive event for you to consider attending.
The Ancient Order of Hibernians intend to throw a party that downtown Toledo won't soon forget!
