50-year anniversary of the March on Washington

It was a key moment during the Civil Rights Movement. The year was 1963 and a quarter of a million people gathered in Washington, D.C., as a rally cry for racial justice and equality.

The Toledo-Lucas County Public Library will observe this historic demonstration with a family event titled Celebrating 50 Years: The March on Washington for Jobs & Freedom scheduled from 2-4 p.m. on Saturday, August 24 in the McMaster Center of Main Library, 325 Michigan St. This event is free and open to the public.

Event schedule:
· Performances by the musical group USHERING and others …
· A play performed by New Works Writers Series, adapted and directed by Imelda Hunt, Ph.D.
· Presentation by Angela Siner, University of Toledo professor of African American History
· A special viewing of a March on Washington excerpt from the PBS documentary Eyes on the Prize
