Butterfly & Bug Fest at Toledo Zoo on Aug. 31
On Aug. 31, visit the Toledo Zoo for a day dedicated to the little creatures that creep, crawl, float and flutter! It’s the Zoo’s latest Science Day, and it offers the double bonus of Wild Walkabout activities presented by Mercy and bringing Aus-some activities to Zoo visitors.
The fun starts at 10 a.m. and runs ‘til 4 p.m. Children participate in all sorts of buggy games, from harvesting and tasting honey to playing in spider ball tournaments. The whole family will enjoy the Zoo’s bug-focused story time and Keeper Tales live animal show, plus a visit from BUGMAN and his insects – your chance to see bugs like you’ve never seen them before. Imagination Station will be on grounds, too, offering a chromatography butterfly activity.
It all happens in Nature’s Neighborhood, the Zoo’s award-winning children’s zoo that offers innovative, child-centered teaching through real-life science that’s so fun, the kids won’t realize they’re learning.
The Butterfly & Bug Festival is free with regular Zoo admission. For more information and a schedule of activities, visit the Zoo’s website at toledozoo.org/bugfest.
In addition to the fun of the Butterfly & Bug Fest, don’t miss the final weekend of Wild Walkabout, presented by Mercy. It’s your chance to walk among the wallabies. Laugh with the kookaburras. And get close to Baru, the huge saltwater crocodile brought to Toledo by Block Communications, Inc. (at 17 feet long, Baru is the largest saltwater croc in North America!). Learn more at toledozoo.org/walkabout.
This summer, the Zoo is open 7 days a week from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Zoo is located on the Anthony Wayne Trail (US 25), four miles south of downtown Toledo. For more information, please visit toledozoo.orgor call 419.385.4040. Lucas County residents are admitted free of charge on non-holiday Mondays from 10 a.m. to noon. Valid ID showing proof of residency is required.
