From Plant to Plate: Preserving Your Fresh Local Produce

In observance of Local Foods Week, a 9-day-long celebration to raise awareness of local food and draw attention to the role of local food in establishing a vibrant, sustainable future for the Ohio food system, the Toledo-Lucas County Public Library and the Ohio State University Extension Lucas County has partnered to present a series titled From Plant to Plate: Preserving Your Fresh Local Produce.

The series, scheduled at five neighborhood branch locations, will feature Patrice Powers-Barker, of the Ohio State University Extension Lucas County. She plans to highlight common home food preservation techniques such as canning, freezing and drying fresh fruits, vegetables and herbs.

From Plant to Plate overview sessions are FREE and open to both the novice and the experienced food preservationist.

From Plant to Plate series schedule:

· Thursday, August 15 (7-8:30 p.m.) – Oregon Branch Library, 3340 Dustin Rd., Oregon, OH.
· Tuesday, August 20 (6:30-8 p.m.) – Sanger Branch Library, 3030 W. Central Ave.
· Monday, August 26 (6:30 -8 p.m.) – Holland Branch Library, 1032 S. McCord Rd., Holland, OH.
· Tuesday, September 10 (6:30-8 p.m.) – Birmingham Branch Library, 203 Paine Ave.
· Wednesday, October 2 (6:30-8 p.m.) – Waterville Branch Library, 800 Michigan Ave., Waterville, OH.
