Mickey Finn’s Pub Says Thank You for More Than 15 Years
Mickey Finn, owner of Mickey Finn’s Pub, announces that this entertainment destination will be open limited hours until a new owner takes over. Mickey Finn’s Pub has been a major part of Toledo’s Vistula Historic District since it opened on St. Patrick’s Day, 1998.
The building at 602 Lagrange Street, which is home to Mickey Finn’s Pub, has quite a history. It was built in 1865 by Ignatius Wernet and John Streicher. From 1879 until 1933, the building housed a general store downstairs and apartments upstairs. The end of Prohibition changed everything. Having acquired one of the first liquor licenses in Toledo, this neighborhood general store became Bouton's Cafe and began selling liquor. The Bouton family operated it continuously from 1933 until 1996, when Mickey Finn purchased the property. Massive renovations, both inside and out, began in the fall of 1997. Three original windows, almost perfectly intact, a wooden staircase and an archway that leads into the next building were discovered. The original tin ceiling was found in fabulous condition after the old drop ceiling was taken down. The bricks on the walls were reconditioned and the inside of the building was transformed back to its original beauty of the 1870s. An antique bar-back, complete with a mirror, was found in a local antique shop and was refinished, adding even more authenticity to the look and feel of the Pub.
Mickey Finn wishes to thank Jamie Deen for bringing in such great music during this last year. During its history, hundreds of great bands and singers have performed at Mickey Finn’s Pub. Local favorites include Pat Lewandowski and the Ragbirds. National groups include Gaelic Storm, Randy Jackson of Zebra, Enter the Haggis and Seven Nations. Toledo School for the Arts musicians performed at the Pub and area artists displayed their work, including Boyd Hambleton and several glassblowers. Open Mic Night with Pat Brady and Tim Ide with his Justajunkie Films were also an ongoing part of the entertainment.
Mick offers sincere thanks to the thousands of good friends and patrons who have enjoyed the friendly mingling and entertainment at his Pub for more than 15 years. He hopes that Toledoans will support the next chapter of Mickey Finn’s Pub, the sale of which is being handled by Germano Bressan of Signature Associates.
