Zoo Fun Continues through September

Sept. 2 Wild Walkabout, presented by Mercy, ends for season
Walk among the wallabies in a special walk-through exhibit. Meet Baru, the largest saltwater crocodile in North America, brought to Toledo by Block Communications, Inc. Continue your adventure with dingoes, kookaburras, lionfish and more as you explore the fascinating natural world of Australia. Remarkable up-close animal encounters free with regular Zoo admission;separate-fee behind-the-scenes tours enrich the experience.

Sept. 2 Natural Feeding and Enrichment Demos end for season Times vary
See your favorite Zoo animals chow down or interact with keepers and visitors; visit toledozoo.org/feedings for a complete schedule. Free with regular Zoo admission.

Tues., all month long Senior Discovery Days, presented by Health Care REIT
On Tuesdays, seniors (age 60 and up) receive free admission and parking, plus special tours and activities. Each weekday, seniors get free coffee and a mini-muffin (10 a.m.-2 p.m.) in the Timberline Bakery.

Tues., September 3 September hours begin
The Toledo Zoo is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily (10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends).

Sun., September 8 Day of Honor, sponsored by Meijer
To honor those who keep us safe, the Zoo offers free admission to all military personnel, police officers, firefighters and EMTs when they show their badge or professional ID.

Sun., September 8 Grandparents Day
Free admission for all grandparents who visit with their grandchildren. Great activities, too!

Sun., September 8 I Do at the Zoo Bridal Fair 3 – 7 p.m.
Planning a big day? You want to attend this bridal fair at the Zoo’s Nairobi Pavilion. Separate fee.

Tues., September 10 Senior Safari 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Join the Toledo Zoo and Area Office on Aging of Northwestern Ohio for seniors’ (age 60+) health screenings, exercise, safety tips and more, plus free Zoo admission, parking and discounts. Lunch provided in the Nairobi Pavilion; purchase tickets in advance through the Area Office on Aging at 419.382.0624.

Starting Tues., Sept. 10 Animal Tales Times vary
Children ages 3-4 enjoy Zoo stories, crafts and Zoo animal visits.

Stroller-age children explore the world’s habitats through Zoo exhibits.

Wed., September 18 Watch it Grow Garden Tour (Plants of Africa!) 9:30 a.m.
The Zoo’s gardeners lead a walking tour of the Africa! exhibit’s remarkable plants (meet by the Safari Railway). Free with regular Zoo admission, but reservations are required; [email protected].

Wed., September 18 Homeschool Day 10 a.m.
Experience what the Zoo offers homeschoolers and preview the upcoming homeschool programs. Separate fee; Zoo member discount applies.

Fri., September 20 Zoo Brew 7 – 11 p.m.
Age 21 & up. Sample domestic and imported beers, snack on tasty appetizers and dig some great music. Tickets must be purchased in advance; call 419.385.5721, ext. 6001. Separate fee; Zoo member discount applies.

In September, the Zoo is open 7 days a week from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (weekends, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.) The Zoo is located on the Anthony Wayne Trail (US 25), four miles south of downtown Toledo. Valid ID showing proof of residency is required.
