The Navy Band Great Lakes Wind Ensemble is commemorating the 200th Anniversary of the Battle of Lake Erie fought during the War of 1812 with a special free Labor Day concert on the lawn of The Commodore Schoolyard at the intersection of Indiana and Louisiana Avenue in downtown Perrysburg, Ohio. The concert will be held on Monday, September 2, beginning at 1:00 p.m. This concert is free and open to the public.
“Pride in Service” has been the theme for Navy Band Great Lakes for more than 102 years. From 1911, when the first bugler reported for duty, to Bandmaster John Philip Sousa in 1917, to today’s Bandmaster, Navy Lt. Patrick K. Sweeten, the music of Navy Band Great Lakes represents the pride and professionalism that is synonymous with the United States Navy. Homeported on board Naval Station Great Lakes and serving Commander, Naval Service Training Command’s mission of transforming volunteers into 21st century Sea Warriors, Navy Band Great Lakes performs more than 500 times each year throughout a 9-state area of the United States. Dubbed, “America’s Band,” by President Woodrow Wilson, Navy Band Great Lakes annually entertains more than 60 million people as the United States Navy’s, “Ambassadors to the Midwest” Navy Band
