Highly Acclaimed Musical Wicked Comes to Toledo
Toto, I don't think we're in Toledo anymore. Who needs to go to Broadway when Broadway is coming to you? Don't miss your chance to thrill the little ones - and yourself - with a night out at the Grammy- and Tony-Award-winning play Wicked, which is a spinoff of The Wizard of Oz.
Synopsis
Drama had been unfolding in the magical land of Oz long before Kansas farm-girl Dorothy was sent there by a twister-induced bump on the head.
Two schoolmates, Elphaba and Glinda, came of age together and followed very different paths in the bizarre and fascinating land of Oz. One beautiful and popular, the other feisty and reviled, their lives would eventually lead them to become the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good.
Wicked tells the story of Oz, before and after Dorothy's arrival, from the perspectives of the two women, whose tenuous relationship saw ups and downs throughout their long and fantastical odyssey. Based on the 1995 Gregory Maguire novel, Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, the play brings all new characters to a familiar story, but also features appearances by Dorothy, the Cowardly Lion, and Tin Man.
The Show
Wicked premiered on Broadway in 2003 and remains one of the most commercially and critically successful shows ever. It has won more than 35 big-time awards, including a Grammy, and took home three Tony Awards of the 11 for which it was nominated. Its musical numbers have gone on to win commercial success and critical praise.
