Opera Star Marilyn Horne at UT for Talk, Master Class
MARILYN HORNE TO PRESENT MASTER CLASS, PUBLIC DISCUSSION, IN OCTOBER AT UNIVERSITY OF TOLEDO
Legendary opera star Marilyn Horne will visit the University of Toledo on October 18 & 19 to take part in a public discussion of her career and life in music with UT Opera Ensemble director and Assistant Professor of Voice Denise Ritter Bernardini, and to conduct a Master Class with vocal students.
Horne actively teaches vocalists around the world. She performed regularly for many years with the Metropolitan Opera and also appeared in major opera houses around the world, such as La Scala, Gelsenkirchen Opera, San Francisco Opera, Opera Company of Boston and the Royal Opera House. She was a Kennedy Center Honoree in 1995 and is a recipient of the National Medal of Arts. Her notable recordings include "West Side Story," led by Leonard Bernstein, from 1984; Bizet's "Carmen" in 1972, also conducted by Bernstein; Gluck's "Orfeo ed Euridice" from 1970, conducted by Georg Solti; Puccini's "Suor Angelica" in 1976, led by Lorin Maazel; and many Rossini operas.
The College of Communication and the Arts is pleased to present Ms. Horne on the evening of Friday, October 18 at 7:30 p.m. in conversation with Dr. Ritter Bernardini in the Recital Hall of UT's Center for Performing Arts. A book signing will follow in the CPA Lobby. Tickets are available for this event for $25 each, through the CPA's Box Office at utoledo.edu/boxoffice and by phone at 419-530-2375. Seating is limited and tickets are first-come, first-served.
The Master Class will run from 1-3 p.m. on Saturday, October 19 in the Recital Hall. Featured singers are Molly Bock, Lena Miller, and Sasha Noori, from the UT Department of Music, and Meridian Prall, of Homestead High School in Fort Wayne, Indiana. UT vocalists Devon Desmond and Janaye Ashman will serve as alternates. While seating in the audience of the Master Class is free and open to the public, space is at a premium, so reservations are required through the CPA Box Office at utoledo.edu/boxoffice.
