Apples Galore at the Apple Stir & Crafts Festival
If you're anywhere near Holland during the first weekend of October, chances are when you think of fall, you think of apples. That's because since 1982, Ohio has been ringing in Autumn with the Apple Stir & Crafts Festival at MacQueen Orchards. The entire weekend is dedicated to family, fun, music, food, crafts, competitions, and, of course, apples.
Where and When
Expect to see people from all over Ohio, Indiana, and Michigan heading to MacQueen Orchards on Saturday, October 5, and Sunday, October 6, starting at 11 a.m. and 10 a.m., respectively. Festivities close at 6 p.m. both days.
The festival takes place at 7605 Garden Road (Gunn Road & Garden Road), Holland, Ohio, 43528. It's just outside of Toledo, west of I-475. Call (419) 865-2916 with any questions or visit their website.
What's So Great About Apples?
Well, everything. They're crisp. They're sweet. They're a negative-calorie food, meaning they contain fewer calories than the amount required to digest them - if you're super healthy, that is.
But none of that matters because the day is hardly dedicated just to apples. Sure, you can pick your own apples. But there is also an awesome arts and crafts show. You can ride in a horses-drawn wagon and even ride a camel. For the kids, there are pony rides. Grub on barbecue, doughnuts, funnel cake, and much more. Enjoy live music and entertainment. There's also a crazy kids area with inflatables and a climbing tower.
Also, there is an apple pie contest with big-time cash prizes. Your entry must be in by October 5th. Don't forget to peruse the bakery, gift shop, farm market and sweets shop while you're there. There is no charge for admission and parking is free.
