Way Library Screens WWII Film
Way Public Library will open its 2013-14 Reel Talk classic film series on Thursday, October 10 with the classic 1943 romantic comedy “The More the Merrier,” starring Joel McCrea and Jean Arthur. Set in Washington, D.C. during World War II in the midst of a housing shortage, Jean Arthur’s character patriotically rents half of her apartment to a millionaire played by Charles Coburn, who in turn rents half of his half to an army sergeant played by Joel McCrea. Coburn naturally attempts to play Cupid, and the sparks fly. This crowd-pleasing film earned six Academy Award nominations for 1943 and a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for Coburn.
Toledo resident Evan Chase, who coordinates the classic film series at the Maumee Indoor Theatre, will be the special guest speaker. The film will be shown at 10 a.m. on Thursday, October 10. Admission and refreshments are free. For more information, please call 419-874-3135.
