Library Director Wins Prestigious Lifetime Achiever Award
Toledo-Lucas County Public Library Director Clyde Scoles has won the prestigious Touchstone Lifetime Achiever Award from the Press Club of Toledo. The honor, which was announced last evening, October 3, at the Press Club’s Annual Touchstone Awards at the Toledo Club, recognizes long-term efforts to enhance the quality of life in the Northwest Ohio region.
The judges, made up of a panel of Lucas County community leaders, stated this about Mr. Scoles: “Fostering and improving literacy in our society is the key to a better informed and more competent workforce. Further, the Toledo-Lucas County Public Library system is one of the crown jewels of our community. Toledo and the surrounding area are very fortunate to have this person at the helm of our library system.”
The Touchstone Award Ceremony, held annually since 1999, is the Press Club’s signature event, honoring newsmakers and news-breakers in the community.
Mr. Scoles, a Sylvania Township resident, who has served as Library Director since 1985, is known for his willingness to take risks in pursuing partnerships, collaborative efforts, tax levies, building projects and grants.
“There is no doubt that Mr. Scoles’ work has made a dramatic impact on the residents of Lucas County,” said Susan Gibney, Manager of the Library’s Marketing Department and a co-nominator for the award. “He inspires everyone around him to dream bigger, go for the next rung and don’t be satisfied with status quo,” she said.
Kurt Franck, The Blade’s Executive Editor and the other co-nominator for the award, said Mr. Scoles is very deserving of this recognition because of his long-time commitment to Lucas County through excellent library service to the community. “Our Library system is one of the handful of jewels in this area,” Franck said. “Clyde has done a fine job of making free library service available to everyone.”
