Way Library hosts NaNoWriMo events starting November 1

Get your pencils sharpened and your laptops charged up, because November is National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo). From November 1st to the 30th, participants around the world will write, and write, and write some more until they reach 50,000 words. That’s right – 50,000 words in 30 days.
NaNoWriMo started in 1999 and by 2011 had 256,618 participants and 36,843 winners (those who reached the 50k word goal). Writing such a large quantity in such a short time encourages the silencing of the inner critic and can allow writers greater freedom to express themselves. There are several bestselling novels that began during NaNoWriMo, including The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern and Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen. You can learn more at http://nanowrimo.org/about/hownanoworks/.
This year, Way Public Library wants to get in on the fun by hosting several events for NaNoWriMo participants. There will be a kick-off party on Friday, November 1st at 7:00 pm, where you can learn more about NaNoWriMo. The party will also have survival kits, refreshments, games, and writing tips from local author Sally Wright.
Throughout the month there will be three write-ins – Monday, November 5th from 5-8 pm, Sunday, November 17th from 2-5 pm, and Sunday, November 24th from 2-5 pm. The write-ins will provide a place and time to work on your writing – we’ll have games, writing prompts, coffee, and comfortable places to sit and write. You’ll also be able to browse and reference our writing books to help you on your NaNo journey!
Halfway through NaNoWriMo on November 13th at 7:00 pm we’ll have an encouragement party with games, short presentations about writing, and refreshments. Finally, we’ll celebrate the relief of being done with NaNoWriMo with a wrap-up party on Monday, December 2nd at 7:00 pm.
All events are free and open to the public. Refreshments will be provided.
