Author's Event Celebrates National Adoption Month

For residents of the Toledo area, National Adoption Month and Adoption Day will be a much more personal event than just a date on a calendar. On November 23rd, you'll get the chance to delve into the story of an innocent child who suffered horrible abuse and was eventually adopted through the eyes of the author and adoptee who lived, and eventually chronicled his journey.

What, Where, and When

To see a touching, unforgettable, and heartbreakingly honest account of a true story of disorder, adoption, and recovery, come to the Adopt America Network's annual Author's Event on November 23 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Funny Bone Comedy Club, 6140 Levis Commons Blvd., Perrysburg, OH.

Tickets are $10. Get them online prior to the show or at the door. To reserve your spot and for more information, call Daphne at (800) 246-1731 and check out the event's website.

The Author's Event

Adoptee Jessie Hogsett, author of Detached: Surviving Reactive Attachment Disorder, will tell his first-hand experience growing up with Fetal Alcohol Syndrome and Reactive Detachment Disorder, or RAD, and the story of his struggle to live with these difficulties. Audience members will benefit not just from hearing his story, but will also receive tips and lessons on helping loved ones or friends who are dealing with similar issues.

There will also be a question-and-answer session, as well as dessert. The venue's menu is open if you're feeling hungry.

Jessie's Story

For Jessie Hogsett, the abuse started before he was even born. Entering the world with Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, he knew nothing but pain, neglect, and trauma throughout his early childhood. Landing first in foster care, he was eventually adopted. His struggle with RAD left him in a residential treatment facility for two of his early teenage years. Travel through his childhood through his own memories and hear his story through his own words.

The Adopt America Network

The Adopt America Network is focused on securing loving homes for children who are vulnerable, abused, traumatized, or dealing with social or mental disorders. Their mission is especially important because the children they help get adopted are the ones who need a stable, loving home more than anyone else.

Jessie Hogsett's story is just one adoption tale out of millions that should be celebrated and explored throughout National Adoption Month. His special perspective and abilities as a storyteller, however, make this event a truly unique experience.
