BGSU Lively Arts Calendar, Dec. 4-18, 2013
Dec. 4—The College of Musical Arts sponsors World Percussion Night, featuring student ensembles including the Hayabusa and Kaze No Daichi Taiko groups, Balinese Gamelan and Afro-Caribbean Ensemble. The performance starts at 8 p.m. in Kobacker Hall of the Moore Musical Arts Center. Free
Dec. 5—Bachelor of Fine Arts studentswill present their work in the Creative Writing Program’s Reading Series, co-sponsored by the College of Arts and Sciences, Creative Writing Program and the Mid-American Review. The reading begins at 7:30 p.m. at Prout Chapel. Free
Dec. 6—The annual ArtsX event spreads across all three buildings in the BGSU arts campus, including the Dorothy Uber Bryan and Willard Wankelman galleries, where student and faculty artists and performers show off their talents to the community. The evening includes a special continuous outdoor showing of “Cinema Optique!” — animation graphics covering the south wall of the Wolfe Center for the Arts. Works from the College of Musical Arts, the School of Art, the Department of Theatre and Film, the Creative Writing Program, the Dance Program, and numerous other organizations will be featured, along with holiday shopping. The “Wonderland”-themed event starts at 6 p.m. and runs till 10 p.m. Free
Dec. 6—In conjunction with ArtsX, BGSU’s top ensembles will present a special Festival Series holiday showcase starting at 7 p.m. in Kobacker Hall of the Moore Musical Arts Center. The night consists of holiday favorites, special readings and Haydn’s “Toy Symphony.” Ensembles include the BG Philharmonia, BG Wind Symphony, University Choirs and guest artist soprano Kisma Jordan, a BGSU alumna. Dec. 6—In the Willard Wankelman Gallery of the Fine Arts Center, Wunderkammer, the Student Flash Show exhibition, will be on display from 7-8 p.m. Additional dates include Dec. 7, 10, 11, 13 and 14. Free
Dec. 7— Guest artist Lars Mlekusch, saxophone, performs at 4 p.m. in Bryan Recital Hall of the Moore Musical Arts Center. Mlekusch will play Hiroyuki Itoh’s “The Angel of Despair” and Luciano Berio’s “Sequenza WIIb,” along with an improvisation session. Free
Dec. 7— In conjunction with ArtsX, the School of Art presents the annual Faculty and Staff Exhibition. Some of the finest artists in the region showcase their best work in the Dorothy Uber Bryan Gallery of the Fine Arts Center. The work varies from paint to print to mixed media to glass to graphics. The exhibition will continued through Jan. 19 (closed Dec. 22-Jan. 12). Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, 6- 9 p.m. Thursdays, and 1-4 p.m. Sundays. Free
Dec. 11— All day in Kobacker Hall of the Moore Musical Arts Center, BGSU students will compete in the semi-final round of Competitions in Music for a chance to perform a solo with the BG Philharmonia. Free

Undergraduate dance majors and minors perform contemporary pieces they created during class. The performance begins at 8 p.m. in 222 Eppler North. Free
