Posted: Wednesday, December 4, 2013 by: Rebecca Hinkle | Category: Community Interest

When the temperature drops, don’t stay indoors, come out to Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge and experience the wonders of Ohio’s wildlife and their habitats this winter. Red fox tracks, muskrat huts- sometimes all you need to discover wildlife is a different perspective in a new season on the refuge!

Saturdays are for the kids on the first weekend of every month here at Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge. Nature Tots, a program for children ages 3-5, is from 10:30 AM until 11:30 AM. Be sure to stick around for Swampers, a program for children ages 6-10, from 1:00 to 2:30 PM on Saturday, December 7, 2013. You don’t want to miss these wildlife programs designed to spark an early interest in science and conservation for your children!

Come by Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge’s visitor center between noon and 4:00 PM on Sunday, December 8, 2013 for our annual Holiday Open House. A partnership between Magee Marsh Wildlife Area, Black Swamp Bird Observatory and Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge, the Holiday Open House encourages visitors to stop by all three places to get a stamp to be entered in a drawing for one of three baskets full of goodies. Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge is hosting family nature craft demonstrations and having a guided bus trips throughout the afternoon.

The Auto Tour will be open December 21 and 22, so you can catch a glimpse of wildlife up close by driving through seven miles of Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge that are normally closed to the public. The new entrance from the Visitor Center parking lot opens at 8:00 AM and closes at 4:00 PM.

All events are free of charge and are held at the Visitor Center unless otherwise noted. Call (419) 898-0014 for questions.
