Lights Before Christmas Offers Thursday Extras
Sometimes Friday is just too far off. To help the weekend get here a little sooner, the Toledo Zoo brings you a weekend of fun, one day early. Starting December 5, Thursday evenings feature ice-carving demonstrations, local radio station broadcasts and, from 5 to 7 p.m. – courtesy of longtime Lights Before Christmas sponsor, KeyBank -- free 3-D glasses (to make the Lights even more magical).
This year, in addition to over a million lights and 200+ illuminated animal images, plus carolers and ice-carving, visitors will enjoy skating on the new outdoor ice rink that’s included with regular Lights Before Christmas admission. Visitors can bring their own skates or rent some on-site for a small fee.
Back by popular demand is last year’s featured attraction, Snow Globe Live, inviting visitors to step inside the winter fun of a bigger-than-life snow globe. The ice rink and snow globe are sponsored by Taylor Automotive Family.
Visitors’ Lights Before Christmas favorites continue, from the nationally acclaimed Big Tree in new colors and strobe lights, to the Dancing Lights synchronized music/lighting experience by Cheetah Valley. The Safari Railway, African Animal Carousel and Historic Carousel are open for family fun as well (weather permitting). All across the Zoo, new lighting effects drape many of the beloved historic buildings in rich color for dramatic holiday effect. The award-winning children’s zoo, Nature’s Neighborhood, is open, too, and brimming with kids’ creative activities. And don’t forget Santa! The jolly old elf, in all-new sleigh setting, hears children’s wishes in the historic Museum of Science through December 23.
The Lights run through Dec. 31 (closed on Christmas Eve night and Christmas Day). Hours are 3 – 8 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, with the Zoo closing at 9 p.m.; on Friday and Saturday, the hours are 3 - 9 p.m., with the Zoo closing at 10 p.m.
Toledo Zoo members get unlimited free Monday-Thursday Lights Before Christmas visits, plus one free weekend visit. Visitors save $1 per ticket by ordering online attoledozoo.org/lights.
