Toledo Rep Ed winter classes to begin Jan. 11
The Toledo Repertoire Theatre Rep Ed winter classes begin on January 11 and run through March 1, 2014, with the theme “Space Oddities.” There is still room for more students. Children ages 7 to 16 are invited to participate, receiving instruction in singing, dancing, acting, design and technical arts along with other theater basics. At the end of the session, the children perform in a showcase to demonstrate to family and friends what they have learned. Classes are held at the 10th Street Theatre Saturday mornings from 9 a.m. to noon. Students will receive a free t-shirt on show day. The eight-week course is $100 per student. Participants should bring a snack, drink, folder, blank CD and pencil to each class. Flip-flops, clogs or hard shoes are not permitted. For more information or to register, call Kathy McGovern, Rep Business Manager, at 419-243-9277, ext. 4. Registrations also will be taken on the day of classes, if openings are available.
“Noises Off” to open January 17 at 10th Street stage
“Noises Off,” a comedy written by Michael Frayn and co-directed by Carol Ann Erford and Wes Skinner, will open at the Toledo Repertoire Theatre, 16 10th Street on Friday, January 17 at 8 p.m. Second only to “Arsenic and Old Lace” in the Toledo Rep’s audience survey of requested shows, “Noises Off” is a play-within-a play. It begins with the final dress rehearsal of the dreadful sex comedy, “Nothing On.” Botched entrances, forgotten lines, missed cues, and uncooperative props are all the sure-fire makings of an opening night flop. The second act offers a glimpse of the same show from back stage—complete with all the behind-the-scenes antics patrons never get to enjoy—while the final act is the show nearing the end of its ten-week run, long after someone should have put a fork in it. “Noises Off” runs two weekends, January 17-19 and 23-26, 2014. Thursday, Friday and Saturday performances start at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2:30 p.m. Tickets cost $20. For more information or to purchase tickets, please call 419-243-9277.
