"Reel Opinions" documentary on Sir Ernest Shackleton
On Thursday, January 16th at 10:30 a.m., WGTE and Way Library will present the program “Chasing Shackleton”. A new series follows an expedition that recreates Sir Ernest Shackleton’s Trans-Antarctic Expedition, launched in 1914. A modern-day crew of five intrepid explorers attempts to duplicate Shackleton’s epic sea-and-land voyage in a replica of the original explorers’ lifeboat, James Caird, using only the tools and supplies his team used. When the ship Endurance was crushed by ice and sank, Shackleton’s leadership saved the lives of 27 men stranded for more than 500 days. There will be an opportunity for discussion following the screening.
