PRIZM "No Mic Night" Author Support Group
Way Public Library and PRIZM Creative Community will be hosting “No Mic Night”, a monthly author support group beginning January 16, 2014. The community is invited to participate in these regular support and inspiration gatherings for the literary arts. On the third Thursday of each month from 7-9 p.m., authors will meet at the Way Public Library. Please note, meetings on January 16th and February 20th will be from 6:30-8:30 pm in the library’s Mercy Family Activity Center. Meetings from March 20th through December 18th will be from 7-9 pm on the lower level of the library. The library is located at 101 E Indiana Ave, in Perrysburg.
This discussion group has been named “No Mic Night” to express the informal and relaxed nature of the evening. Each month includes peer review, useful feedback, and tips for getting published, all within an informal atmosphere. The group will be guided by facilitators with experience in creative writing including published author and professor of Creative Writing, Lylanne Musselman, who currently serves on the PRIZM Board of Directors.
No Mic Night which enters its third year this January joins the Way Public Library family of programming with a stimulating and interesting schedule for 2014. He spent 7 years writing only haiku. He has published 12 books of poetry and 2 works of non-fiction. He hosted a Broadway Bards poetry reading in Toledo for five years. He currently writes a weekly motivational blog for creative leaders and is a moderator on Google+ for a poetry group.
King has been gainfully employed as a carpenter, street sweeper, car hop, corn detasseler, hospital orderly, radio announcer, book editor, publisher, freelance writer, bus driver, sports writer, bookkeeper, policy and procedures writer, forms designer, marketing vice-president, corporate executive, professional speaker, facilitator, salesman, trainer, organizational development consultant, ad writer and communications executive. Some jobs he has held for a whole day and others he has held for years. He will share how rich and varied experiences from your life can be inspiration for your writing, and tidbits from his publishing experiences followed by peer review.
Those who would like to participate in optional at home/ pre-class writing exercises and writing prompts for potential inspiration are encouraged to join the PRIZM “No Mic Night” email distribution list to receive this information which is generally distributed at least two weeks prior to each class. Using this plan ahead format, the group successfully manages it’s time each meeting to maximize time for peer review. Simply email [email protected] with your name, phone number, and email, with NO MIC NIGHT in the subject line to be added to the communication list. Participants can also request to be added to distribution list by leaving their contact information with The Way Public Library.
