“No Mic Night”, the monthly author support group co-sponsored by Way Public Library and PRIZM Creative Community, continues with a meeting on March 20th from 6:30- 8:30 p.m. and will feature guest facilitator Judith Crandell.
Judith Speizer Crandell is a seasoned, award-winning writer of fiction, poetry, and nonfiction. She has been the recipient of a residency at Yaddo and a Maryland State Arts Council Individual Artist Fellowship. Recently, she won two Raymond Carver Short Story Awards from PRIZM of Northwest Ohio. Her general background includes writers' workshops, newspaper and magazine journalism, and speechwriting in Washington, D.C.
Last summer, she was selected to attend the AROHO women’s writer retreat in New Mexico. She began 2014 as a semi-finalist in the Tucson Festival of Books Literary Awards competition. Having resided on both coasts, she currently lives in Perrysburg, Ohio along the Maumee River where she thoroughly enjoys holding “Memoir Sisters” writing classes in her home, teaching continuing education classes at Lourdes University, and sitting by the river with her dog, Sparky.
Her formal education includes a BA in Psychology from Ohio State University, an MA in English from Cleveland State University, and post-doctoral work at Case Western University, along with a summer abroad at the University of London. In truth, the love of literature is at the core of her writing ability and passion – her life. Add reading to life experiences and you have her true education.
In the Thursday evening meeting on March 20th, Judith will share her passion for literary work as well as facilitate the peer discussion for those who want to share in-progress work. This free and open to the public program encourages the participation of all community members. Participants who choose to share work for peer review should bring 12+ copies to share for peer review, and can expect to receive inspiration, motivation, and useful feedback within an informal atmosphere. One need not share a manuscript in order to attend and learn from these informative meetings. Please bring paper, pencil or digital media for note taking or potential writing exercises that may be a part of the evening dialogue.
To participate in optional at home/ pre-class writing exercises and writing prompts for potential inspiration the community is encouraged to join the PRIZM “No Mic Night” email distribution list to receive this information, generally distributed two weeks prior to each class. Please email [email protected] with your name, phone number, and email, with NO MIC NIGHT in the subject line to be added to the communication list.
