Zumbathon for Ava Hopins, March of Dimes Ambassador
In 2009 Ava Hopings was born via emergency C-section at Toledo Hospital weighing just 1lb. 14 ozs and measuring only 14 inches long.
Ava came into the world without any eyebrows, eyelashes, fingernails or toenails and soon suffered a brain hemorrhage. She was rushed into the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit where she fought for her life for the next two months.
The doctors warned her parents, Marcus and Michelle Hopings, that Ava may never walk or talk.
Today, despite having mild cerebral palsy and limited use of her left hand and foot, Ava will enter kindergarten in the fall as a regular student without any restrictions.
Recently named the 2014 Ambassador for The March of Dimes, Ava--along with her parents and her sisters Mariah (12) and Amelia (10)—will make numerous public appearances throughout the year.
Please join us for Ava’s next scheduled appearance at a “Zumbathon” championed by a group of talented teen models.
When Ava was recently signed to “P. Marie Talent Management” for representation for commercial print modeling work, a few of her fellow models decided to join together in an effort to support her fundraising and public awareness campaign for The March of DImes.
The teens—Dana Raye Furlong, Gabrielle Guilliod, Jada Marie Boles, and Justus “J. McCray” McCray—received special permission from The March of Dimes and formed “Models for Ava” to help raise money for donations on behalf of Ava.
All four teens also plan to donate a portion of any of their 2014 modeling earnings to The March of Dimes throughout the remainder of the year.
The March of Dimes is a non-profit collaboration of scientists, clinicians, parents, members of the business community and other volunteers affiliated with 51 chapters representing every state, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.
For 75 years, The March of Dimes has worked to improve maternal and child health by funding research and conducting field trials for the eradication of diseases in babies.
“Models For Ava” will present a “Zumbathon” fundraiser on Sunday March 23rd from 1-3 PM at The Z Fit Factory located at 7325 Douglas Road in Lambertville Michigan.
Cost of admission to participate in the popular form of group exercise is $10 with proceeds going toward “Model for Ava’s” donation to The March of Dimes.
The Zumbathon will be led by Zumba instructors Christy Perry Makulinski, owner of Z Fit Factory, and Liz Davis, owner of Liz Davis Fitness and MOMaletics, a health and fitness campaign for new and expecting moms.
