Way Library concludes this season’s classic film series, Reel Talk, with “Arsenic and Old Lace.” This 1941 comedy stars Cary Grant and Priscilla Lane as newlyweds who stop to visit Grant’s elderly aunts and brother Teddy who thinks he’s Teddy Roosevelt. Grant discovers the dotty old ladies have been poisoning gentlemen callers with Teddy burying them in the cellar, thinking they are Panama Canal fever victims.
The movie also stars Raymond Massey as another crazy family member accompanied by his doctor, Peter Lorre, both who show up at the house with serious problems of their own.
“Arsenic and Old Lace” was a hit Broadway play that ran several years and in 1941 was adapted to film by Frank Capra. He directed this black farce at breakneck speed and the result was one of Hollywood’s most hilarious comedies.
Rudy Schroeder, area film buff, will be the guest speaker. “Arsenic and Old Lace” will be shown on Thursday, April 17 at 10:00 a.m. Admission and refreshments are free. For more information visit waylibrary.info or call 419-874-3135.
