Swan Creek Potters Stage Annual Show and Sale
(Whitehouse, Ohio-April 14 2014)
From fanciful to functional, the creative pottery of the members of the Swan Creek Potters will be on display and available for purchase during the group's annual spring show, May 3, 2014 from 9a.m. until 4 p.m.. The sale takes place at 5737 Weckerly Road (between Stitt and Eber Roads) in Whitehouse, rain or shine. Swan Creek Potters started more then a decade ago when the individual members met as
starting potters at 577 Foundation. Artists Julie A. Beutler, Susan Clark, Joyce Donahue, Kathleen Gill-Slee, Fran Kline, Nadia Packard, Maggie Trzcinski and late member Rita Malkin craft a wide selection of wares, from highly functional pieces to whimsical décor. Several members of the group have won awards for their work, and have featured pieces in Toledo-area galleries. "We all use different techniques; some of us create on the wheel others make hand built pots.
What unites us all is a love for the creative process and the satisfaction of getting our hands into clay," says Maggie Trzcinski.
The works for sale will include some of the last pieces created by member Rita Malkin, who passed in December 2013. "Rita had been an artist all her life, but really blossomed creatively as a potter, she is greatly missed ," Ms. Trzcinski recalled.
For those inspired by the works they see at the sale, several members of Swan Creek Potters offer pottery classes.
