In an overview meeting of the school’s five year vision plan, Maumee Valley Country Day School announced last week that it will more than double the courses available to its Upper School students through the Hybrid Learning Consortium.

The Hybrid Learning Consortium (HLC), founded and directed by The Barstow School in Kansas City, Missouri, is a collective of independent schools around the world developing online courses for Upper School students taught by faculty at the member institutions.

The HLC offers students scheduling flexibility, expands course offerings, and connects students across the country and the globe. Maumee Valley, well known for its rigorous academic preparation, is committed to developing unique opportunities for students to focus on their individual interests and passions. The HLC expands the breadth of offerings to Maumee Valley students and allows them to take courses in a variety of fields, such as CAD, engineering, entrepreneurship, and sports broadcasting. In addition to offering a range of classes, the HLC offers nearly 20 Advanced Placement classes and a selection of honors classes that speak highly to the quality of the programming.

“By the time Maumee Valley students come through our program and reach our Upper School, they are well-rounded and sophisticated learners. Our goal is to guide them to explore and study topics that interest and excite them. The Hybrid Learning Consortium allows us to offer a greater variety of courses than we could ever dream of providing here on campus. Our students will now have the opportunity to learn side-by-side with students from Colorado to Georgia and from Australia to Germany. Finally, MV students who engage in the high-quality, intellectually stimulating on-line environments provided by the HLC will be even better prepared for college than is our norm,” said Gareth Griffith, Head of Upper School. “This is an exciting announcement for Maumee Valley and for our families.”
