Way Public Library and PRIZM sponsor Poetry Workshop
Join local poet and BGSU instructor F. Daniel Rzicznek for a lively discussion of how the shape of poetry has evolved throughout history. The workshop called “Vehicles, Vessels, and Forms for Poetry will be taught on Tuesday, May the 13th from 6:30- 9 p.m. at the Way Public Library, 101 E. Indiana Ave., in Perrysburg. The session will start with formal, rhyming and repeating forms of poetry and move forward through time to contemporary techniques such as free verse, prose poetry, and other “open” forms. Participants will be provided with examples of the generous possibilities of different poetic forms, along with ideas on how to apply formal techniques to their own creative and poetic endeavors.

F. Daniel Rzicznek is the author of two poetry collections, Divination Machine (Free Verse Editions/Parlor Press, 2009) and Neck of the World (Utah State University Press, 2007), as well as two chapbooks of poetry, Vine River Hermitage (Cooper Dillon Books, 2011), and Cloud Tablets (Kent State University Press, 2006). A chapbook of prose poems, Nag Champa in the Rain, will appear from Orange Monkey Publishing in 2014. Rzicznek is also the co-editor of The Rose Metal Press Field Guide to Prose Poetry: Contemporary Poets in Discussion and Practice (Rose Metal Press, 2010). His poems have appeared or are forthcoming in The Kenyon Review, The New Republic, Boston Review, Orion, Gray’s Sporting Journal, and many other venues. His nonfiction has appeared in Creative Writing in the Community: A Guide (Bloomsbury, 2014) and Afield: American Writers on Bird Dogs (Sky Horse Publishing, 2010). The recipient of the May Swenson Poetry Award as well as an Individual Excellence Award from the Ohio Arts Council, Rzicznek teaches at Bowling Green State University and lives, writes, and walks his dog in Bowling Green, Ohio.
This workshop and the other numerous PRIZM sponsored events and activities offer members and others an occasion to learn of creative opportunities available to all local artists and authors from novice to professional.
