Lutheran Home at Toledo to Host Civil War Era Baseball Game
Lutheran Home at Toledo, a Lutheran Homes Society (LHS) campus located at the corner of Seaman and Wheeling streets in Toledo, will be hosting a Civil War Era baseball game from 1-4 p.m. on Sunday, July 13, 2014, on the front lawn.
The baseball game will begin at 2 p.m. and will feature the Great Black Swamp Frogs vs. the Rochester Grangers. The Commander of Harmony barbershop quartet will entertain the crowd from 1:30-2 p.m. and Muddy and Muddonna from the Toledo Mud Hens will make an appearance. Concessions will also be available.
Civil War Era baseball uses rules codified in 1860, coincidentally the same year that LHS was founded. The game is considerably different than modern baseball. For instance, players wear period reproduction uniforms, they generally play without gloves, and fair or foul balls caught on one bound are outs.
Lutheran Home at Toledo is a ministry of Lutheran Homes Society that provides assisted living, long-term and short-term skilled nursing care, inpatient and outpatient therapy services, and respite care. For more information, call 419-724-1414.
