49th Annual German-American Festival Offers Delightful Spread of Authentic German and Swiss Cuisine

TOLEDO, Ohio, Aug. 8, 2014 – The German-American Festival will return to Oak Shade Grove in Oregon, Aug. 22-24. Festival attendees can expect a weekend full of music, dancing, contests and activities along with an abundance of traditional German and Swiss food that is sure to make your mouth water.

“There is something for everyone when it comes to food at the Festival. We pride ourselves on providing a wide variety of choices that even the pickiest of eaters will enjoy,” said Tim Pecsenye, Festival Chairman.

Sit at a cozy table and grab a coffee while enjoying some of your favorite desserts at the Sidewalk Café, which will be serving up Kuchen, Strudels, cookies, and a variety of other homemade pasties. Or, visit Swiss Essen Haus to try a number of imported meats and cheeses. These are only a couple of the many food booths that will be offering everything from potato pancakes, potato salad, and bratwurst, to schnitzel sandwiches, sauerkraut and so much more.

The German-American Festival proudly features one of the largest collections of German beers at any festival, even more than the famed Oktoberfest in Germany.

Following is a list of all of the beer that is offered:
• Our light beer: Labatt Blue Light and from Germany our featured beers: Warsteiner Premium Verum, Warsteiner Premium Dunkel (Dark), Warsteiner Oktoberfest, König Ludwig Oktoberfest Special, König Ludwig Weissbier Hell, König Ludwig Weissbier Dunkel, Hofbräu Dunkel, Hofbräu Original, Hofbräu Oktoberfestbier, and Hofbräu Hefeweizen. Returning this year is the German Bier Tour. If you obtain a Bier Tour card and have it stamped seven times, you receive a Bier Glas.
In addition to this extensive beer offering, you can sample six great German wine varieties at Der deutsche Wein-Flug. The festival will have featured cocktails available as well, such as our signature drink “the German Chocolate Cupcake”, along with soft drink specialties.

For guests ages 21 and over who are not drinking, the German-American Festival offers a Designated Driver Program. For $3.00 the DD receives three coupons for a 20 oz. soft drink at any of the soft drink stations on the grounds. The coupons can be purchased at The Guest Services Booth.

“We always want our guests to have fun while ensuring their safety at the same time,” explained Pecsenye. “We have a long list of shuttle locations, along with the Designated Driver Program to make sure that our guests get home safely and conveniently.”

The German-American Festival will be held at Oak Shade Grove, Oregon, Ohio, on Friday, Aug. 22- 6:00 p.m.-1:00 a.m.; Saturday, Aug. 23- 2:00 p.m.-1:00 a.m.; and Sunday, Aug. 24- Noon-11:00 p.m. GAF shuttle tickets are $6.00 and include free parking at the shuttle locations to ensure the convenience and safety of guests. General admission is $8.00 per person. Children 12 years of age and under are admitted at no charge when with an adult or guardian.

It is sponsored by the seven German- and Swiss-American societies in Toledo, and is intended to promote and enhance the German and Swiss cultures, as well as generate revenue to support the German and Swiss cultural center in Oregon, along with a variety of scholarship, athletic and philanthropic programs in the Toledo area.
